UPDATE MANILA, Philippines - A Sorsogon-based broadcaster who figured in a motorcycle accident early Monday succumbed to his injuries shortly before noon Wednesday, dzRH radio reported. The station's Bicol correspondent reported that Gaspar "Jun" Galias died at the Sorsogon Medical Mission Group Hospital in Sorsogon City, 36 hours after being rushed there. Galias, a secretary of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Sorsogon chapter, had been unconscious since the accident at 8 a.m. Monday. He was a hard-hitting broadcast journalist in the province, and was known as a vocal critic of government forces who commit human rights violations. Galias also wrote for "Sorsogon Now" and "Sorsogon Today," a weekly newspaper in the province. - GMANews.TV |
