Release There is no better time than now. Recognizing the challenges and risks that journalists face, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) has been holding a series of safety trainings for journalists since last year. The training campaign, implemented under its Media Safety Program, seeks to equip journalists with practical skills that will help minimize the risks they face during coverage. The fifth training will be held this weekend, June 20-22, and will bring together journalists from Quezon, Batangas, Laguna, Albay, Sorsogon and Camarines Sur provinces. It will engage journalists in discussions and practical exercises on medical emergencies, how to respond to different forms of attacks, and other risks that journalists face. Previous trainings included journalists from the National Capital Region, Central and Northern Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Panay provinces. The trainers are fellow journalists trained by the International Federation
of Journalists (IFJ), the International News and Safety Institute (INSI),
a Brussels-based institution working for media safety, and TOR, a British
security experts' group. The module takes into account the Philippine
media situation and other factors that affect media safety, such as ethics,
and incorporates the techniques taught by international safety experts. Reference: |
