MANILA—The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), ABS-CBN employees, and supporters on Monday, July 6, held a motorcade rally at the House of Representatives in Quezon City in support of the ABS-CBN franchise renewal.

Forty-six cars, 12 motorcycles and about 150 people joined the motorcade from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to the Batasang Pambansa Complex to urge lawmakers to approve the network’s franchise, which has been up for deliberation at the House committee on legislative franchises since May.

Carrying placards “Defend Press Freedom,” “Ibalik ang ABS-CBN,” and “Vote Yes to Franchise,” ABS-CBN employees and supporters held a short program outside the gates of the House of Representatives in time for the 12th hearing on the company’s franchise renewal.

“We urge lawmakers to not use the power given to them by the Filipino for revenge, and to think of the Filipino subscribers of ABS-CBN,” said Deputy-Secretary General Raymund Villanueva during the program.

The House committee on legislative franchises, together with the committee on good government and public accountability, on Monday resumed its hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise to discuss the company’s alleged “biased reporting.” #
