[Alert] Cagayan de Oro journo attacked by police officer

The Cagayan de Oro Press Club reported that one of its members, Rene Abris, was manhandled by an “intoxicated” police officer on November 22.

A statement from COPC President Manuel Jaudian said Abris was at a restaurant in Barangay Canitoan talking to the owner, Barangay Captain Joshua Taboclaon, when Lieutenant Colonel Rey Tabocloan, “without provocation, rudely interrupted the conversation.”

When Abris headed out of the place, the police officer punched him in the back, prompting the journalist to run to his care. But Taboclaon went after him and tried to open the vehicle’s door shuoing: “Media ka? Wa ko nahadlok (You are with media? I’m not scared)!”

The COPC has demanded that Police Regional Office 10 in Camp Alagar investigate the incident and impose sanctions on Taboclaon. They also demanded a public apology “the soonest time possible.”
