PRESS RELEASE | NUJP Europe Chapter holds 3rd General Assembly, elects new set of officers

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Europe chapter held its third General Assembly in Frankfurt, Germany and invited noted journalists as speakers to cover important topics such as newswriting in the digital age from Rappler head of regions Inday Espina-Varona, Ethics in Journalism with Bulatlat editor and NUJP Manila Secretary General Len Olea, Freelance Journalism writer Nina Trige Andersen of the Freelance Group of the Danish Journalist Union. Former TFC Global headwriter and former NUJP director Sonny Fernandez conducted a workshop on newswriting.

A new set of officers was also elected: Sandra Sotelo Aboy, Chairperson; Gene Alcantara. Vice-Chairperson; Jessica Gross, Secretary General; Alvin Umahon, Treasurer, Emmalyn Liwag-Kotte, Auditor and Grace Sheela Pickert, Vangie Rebot Jorquia and Virgilio Cuizon as Council members.

“There is a significant amount of work ahead of us, and we are confident that our collective efforts will help in achieving our objectives of equipping our journalists with knowledge and skills and at the same time providing them with benefits in the work they do,” said Chairperson Sandra Sotelo.

The NUJP Europe chapter was founded in 2015 with members from journalists working in several countries in Europe: Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Ireland, Norway, France and Austria.
