ALERT: CAMERAMAN SHOT DEAD IN DAVAO DEL NORTE

1 July 2019

Unidentified gunman shot dead Reymond Paciol, 28 years old and a former cameraman of state-run People’s Television on Sunday afternoon.

Paciol was riding his motorcycle and is about to open the gate of his apartment when a still unidentified
suspect shot him at close range. Police investigators recovered empty .45 caliber from the scene. The killer immediately escaped after shooting Paciol, who died on the spot.

Initially, the police are looking at personal grudge as the motive behind the killing of Paciol, whose contract as cameraman of PTV Davao del Norte ended on the same day as his death.

Paciol is the second member of media killed in Davao del Norte under the Duterte administration.

On June 7, 2018, Dennis Denora, publisher and reporter of a community newspaper Trends and Times, was also shot to death in Panabo City while in his car and died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. His driver, Mayonito Rivera, was also wounded in the attack.

If the killing turns out to be work-related, Paciol’s would be the 13th media killing under this administration, and the 18th since 1986.
