Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot at the house of a broadcaster in Talilsay City, Negros Occidental Wednesday night, September 19, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines chapter in Bacolod City reported.
No one was hurt but four .45 caliber slugs were recovered from the second floor of the residence of Muews Radio’s Rey Siason in Carmela Valley Homes after the attack, which happened just past 10:30 p.m.
Siason said he was on his way home after his radio program when he and two companions stopped for a meal outside the subdivision around 10:20 p.m. Minutes later, his 16-year old daughter called saying they had heard gunshots.
Neighbors and other witnesses also reported hearing four shots fired by men on two motorcycles.
Siason said the incident was “very traumatic” for his family. Aside from his daughter, Siason’s mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a nephew and niece were at home when the incident happened.
The broadcaster believes the incident was work-related and he was the target of the attack. He said that on Tuesday night, September 18, he had been dropped off at home by his colleague Bambi Yngson when his vehicle was almost hit by a motorcycle carrying two men wearing helmets and black jackets who had apparently been tailing them.
This is the second incident targeting personnel of Muews Radio.
On February 16 this year, former Negros Press Club president Ranilo Azue, was mauled just outside the station by men the station said were associated with the Talisay City government.
