The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines appeals to media houses to look to the needs of their employees as they scale down operations during the health crisis.
While we understand that media companies, like all businesses, are likely to take a huge hit because of the emergency, the indisputable reality is that workers stand to suffer immeasurably more from the disruption.
This is why we are deeply saddened at reports about the no work, no pay policy applied to talents and contractual employees and cash advances designated as deductible from their subsequent paychecks.
We appeal on their behalf for more assistance and more lenient terms to better help tide them over this difficult time. We are certain your non-regular employees, whose work is essential to your incomes, would appreciate this greatly.
