[URGENT ALERT] Journalist arrested by police

Journalist and Manila Today editor Lady Ann Salem was among those arrested in a wave of arrests conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) this morning.

 

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the PNP arrested Salem at her house in Mandaluyong City at approximately 9 AM this morning.

 

The police has yet to release details of the charges against the journalist.

 

Salem is also the communications officer of the global media group International Association of Women in Radio and Television.

 

Manila Today is a chapter of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.

 

A photo obtained by IAWRT shows Salem inside an unmarked police vehicle.

 

Salem’s arrest happened on International Human Rights Day, along with trade union organizer Dennise Velasco and a still undetermined number of activists.
